Maryland Notary Fees
Acknowledgment: Up to $8.00 per signature
Maryland regulation caps the notary fee at $8 per signature on the original or first copy of a record and $4 per signature on each additional copy signed at the same time; the statute authorizes fees up to $25 per original notarial act and caps remote notarial acts at $30. Counted per signature
Acknowledgment, jurat and any other notarial act are capped for each signature notarized, not for each document or appointment. Two people signing the same document are two signatures.

A notary public may demand and receive a fee of no more than $8 for notarizing each signature on the original or first copy of a record, and may demand and receive $4 for each signature on each additional copy of the same record when multiple copies of the same record are signed at the same time by the same person or persons. Additionally, when a notary public is requested to make reproductions of a notarized record or an entry in the notary's journal by photocopying or other means, the notary may demand and receive not more than $2 for each copy furnished. A notary public may also demand and receive reimbursement at the prevailing rate for mileage established by the Internal Revenue Service for business travel and a fee not to exceed $5 for travel if required for the performance of a notarial act. [State Gov't § 18-107:] The Secretary of State shall adopt regulations to establish fees not to exceed $25 for an original notarial act ... A notary public may NOT charge more than $30 for a remote notarial act.
Caveats and research notes
The statute (State Gov't § 18-107) sets a $25 ceiling on what the Secretary of State may establish by regulation for an original notarial act; the operative regulation (COMAR 01.02.08.02) currently sets $8 per signature on the original/first copy and $4 per signature on additional copies. The $8/$4 per-signature cap is the number notaries must follow. Search results did not state an effective date for the current regulation.
